Is there an alternative to Insight for Jira Core and Software users who do not want to purchase JSM?

There are going to be Jira Core and Software users, on standard or even free plans, who will not want to purchase JSM premium seats per user who will need a CMDB.  Is there anything similar to Insight out there that integrates with Jira?

Hi @Rob Horan,

You can start exploring options in the Marketplace from this search on Asset Management apps.

There are a couple of dedicated apps listed, also a couple of connectors to external asset management tools and even more open connectors to external databases (not necessarily asset management systems).

Thanks Walter, I appreciate it, but without actually trying all of those it would be hard to say which most closely mimics the functionality of Insight.  I was hoping someone might have a recommendation.

Hi @Rob Horan,

that is understandable. Be aware that Insight Cloud is just launched in its new form - so I wouldn't judge the book by just its cover. Also, start from your own asset management needs rather than a tool, I would suggest. And yes, that does require some research.

I'm looking for information mostly.

The concern here is that Jira Core/Software users on Server who use Insight are going to face a very tough billing choice.  They either need to move to Data Center OR they will have to move to Cloud and purchase very expensive Premium JSM seats just so they can retain Insight - and how many do they need to buy?  JSM seats aren't like JC/JSW - they are far more expensive per user.

Hey @Rob Horan, I second you on that concern. On every occasion we try to highlight that Insight / asset management does have a valuable place outside of ITSM use cases.

On cloud, you can get Insight with a premium license for the minimum of 3 agents. On Data Center, that's something else - as the lowest tier there starts at 50 agents.

Hi @Walter Buggenhout . In the cloud scenario, do you know if Jira Core licensed users are able to make use of Insight custom fields that have been created by premium JSM licensed users?

In other words, do you need the JSM license to even use Insight custom fields, or do you just need the JSM license to manage objects, custom fields, etc?

thanks,
