How to set the assignee to the current user if issue is unassigned?

How to set the assignee to the current user if issue is unassigned?

With post functions you can set the assignee of a issue to the current user within a transition. The post function: "assign to current user" almost does what I need but it overrides the assignee.

Is it possible to only assign the current user if the issue is unassigned?
I don't want the values to be overridden.

The jira server is running jira 8.6

Hi @Quin Ligteringen

You will have to purchase a 3rd party plugin like jmwe that had conditions. Or jira use automation.
