How project manager get hours from his/her Tempo account?

jukka peltonen March 3, 2014

Background: We have about 40 projects (in our portfolio). Each of them has project manager. Those project managers are in Jira as "normal" users (not admins). We have 2 AD groups (users/admins). Then we have about 100 global Tempo accounts (40 of those are projects to follow project costs). We have set a Project manager as Tempo Account Lead. Multiple "Jira-projects" can work with one project (one Jira-project works withs UI, another backend services etc...).

Problem: The project managers can see accounts but not the hours which people has entered :(

(If project manager him/herself has entered hours for some issue, he/she can see those, but not anything else)

Project manager (in this context) is not a team lead or not Jira project lead. His/her role is more like business account manager and looks only numbers and budget.

I (as an admin) can see all hours/account. We have tried everything we found from web - no help.

So how the account managers can see directly and create the reports - hours/account themselves. How we should change the access/user rights?

You don t need to give permission to edit hours for team members. Just don t select the checbox "User with Approve Timesheet Permission can log work for team members" and the hours field can not be edited by other than worklog owner.

Ok, we can live with this workaround. (We would not like to give edit rights to the project manager (=edit workers hours) we can see a small risk there :) )

Hi Jukka

In current Tempo Timesheets version users who have Approve Timesheets permissions configured in Tempo Teams can see all worklogs for other users.

I suggest that you create a team and select those users in Approve Timesheets permission. You don t need to add any users as members for this team.
https://tempoplugin.jira.com/wiki/display/TEAMS/Team+Permissions

These users can now see all worklogs in the Account Timesheets if they have JIRA Browse project permissions for the project.

We are currently improving all Tempo permissions to be released in Tempo Timesheets 7.9 due in April.

Hope you can use this workaround until the improvements are released.
