How can I update projects and tickets in Jira using api's?

I want to enable end to end automation and would like to update Jira tickets and confluence documentation through API's as part of my automation.

Is this possible?

It is possible. 

Here's the documentation:

Server

Cloud

If you. are using cloud, there are automation features already there as part of the application. Very useful for simple to medium level routine automation tasks.
