We are getting licensing error messages for some Content Formatting macros in our system. We have never received these messages before and we do not show that the license has expired through the Add-ons UI. Has the Content Formatting Macros changed?
No, you do not need a license to use the basic Feature.
Yes, you do need a license to use a premium features.
Content Formatting Macros is free and doesn't require a license to use the free macros.
However, since the last Content Formatting Macros 4.0.1 version we added some Premium Macros that do require a license to be used, so you only would need a license if you are interested in any of those new macros, that require a license to be used, that could be acquired through Atlassian , otherwise it could remain unlicensed.
Premium Macros are licensed via Atlassian through the Universal Plugin Manager (UPM).
However, If you are using a version of Content Formatting Macros prior to 4.0.1 the plugin is licensed through the Plugin Licensing Manager and given that is free you cangenerate a new license for your server.

So, the free macros don't require a license at all? Why would we be getting a licensing error when only a free macro was used?

I get an error that there is an update and that our install is not licensed, but the free parts of the macro should continue to work.
Can you include a screen shot of the error?
