Add a canvas to your Loom recording 🎨

In last week's post, I said I would share how I added the canvas to my loom video. Well...I keep my promises!

Effective communication isn’t just about information - it’s also about connection. But in today’s hybrid and remote work environments, it’s easy for updates to feel impersonal or, worse, get lost in a sea of emails and Slack messages. That’s where Loom’s Canvas feature comes in.

By adding a canvas, you can deliver engaging video messages without needing to share your screen or prepare slides in advance. It’s perfect for when you want people to consume your message on their own time while still getting the benefit of your tone, energy, and authenticity - something text alone just can’t capture.

Why Use Canvas?

Whether you’re a manager sharing team updates, an executive rolling out a strategic initiative, or just connecting with a colleague, Loom Canvas helps you communicate more effectively. Check out this great loom from @Brittany Soinski

Using Canvas in Loom 🎨 - Watch Video

No need to prepare visuals – Start with built-in templates or customize backgrounds instantly.
Keep your message focused – Add text overlays for key points without distractions.
Stay on-camera for connection – Your video bubble keeps your presence front and center.
Perfect for async communication – Let your team watch on their own time, reducing meeting fatigue.

How to Use It

Using Canvas is simple:

1️⃣ Open Loom’s desktop recorder or Chrome extension.
2️⃣ Select the Canvas option and choose a template or background.
3️⃣ Add text, customize colors, and turn on your camera bubble.
4️⃣ Hit record and start sharing!

Here’s how Atlassians have been using Canvas:

🎥 Team Updates – Instead of long emails or Slack messages, we send quick, visual updates with key highlights.
📌 Pre-Watch Materials – Record thoughts ahead of meetings so live time is spent discussing, not presenting.
📢 Leadership Notes – Weekly reflections, team shoutouts, or “big picture” thoughts to keep everyone aligned.

🚀 Try it out and let us know in the comments the different ways you utilize Loom's Canvas!
