Making that vision into a reality for the Developers and teams supporting them across WPP, is the goal of the DevOps Tools Platform team. This team will architect, manage, and provide support for the tools that enable Development Operations across WPP.
We’re looking for a DevOps Platform Architect with strong business analysis and support skills to join and help build out this function. With such a diverse set of teams across WPP who would consume our services, and with the technology landscape as wide and varied as it is across WPP, the right candidate will need to have a strong technical grounding and a desire to help teams implement best practices with a variety of products. While the tools play their part in success, they won’t do this alone. We’re also helping to improve the culture of development within and between teams, so strong communication skills are a must. You will support a mix of migrations, consolidations, integrations, and ongoing support.
This role will work closely with WPP’s agency teams to help understand business requirements and translate these to efficient processes utilizing the suite of tools, while also helping the wider business goal of more secure, consistent, efficient platforms. A variety of training will be provided.
What you'll be doing:
- Administration: Architect and provide ongoing expert-level support for a variety of products in the DevOps space including tools for code management, CI/CD, testing frameworks, containers, IaC, configuration management, and vulnerability management.
- Support: Monitor the Jira Service Management queue for requests and handle accordingly.
- Administration: User and group management via Active Directory, LDAP, Crowd, Okta, and other identity tools.
- Administration: Architect and maintain an appropriate structure of permissions within each of the DevOps Tools to projects, issues, spaces, code, or other tool-specific objects.
- Architecture and Design: Use built-in customization as well as third party add-ons for extending the functionality of the DevOps Tools and our specific configuration / implementation of them.
- Architecture and Design: Determine ways to optimize/improve tool setup and process workflows, as well as identify where functionality can/cannot meet user requests.
- Architecture and Design: Create/Assist in creation of robust, decoupled, and efficient platform integrations with other WPP DevOps products/processes.
- Implementation: Craft comprehensive workflows to address complex process requirements, using project workflows, screen schemes, permission schemes, notification schemes etc., and document these thoroughly.
- Implementation: Develop metrics dashboards and advanced filters in Jira to provide business teams meaningful operational/performance metrics and status reports.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Be an expert go-to person for a variety of products in the DevOps space including tools for code management, CI/CD, testing frameworks, containers, IaC, configuration management, and vulnerability management.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Display a mastery of import/migration mechanisms and tooling/scripting required for successful addition of data across the DevOps tools.
- Subject Matter Expertise: suggest improvements to existing configurations as part of rationalization, consolidation, and migration efforts.
- Project Management: Assist in upgrade testing, planning and communications.
- Technology Oversight: Domain registration and renewal support, DNS and SSL management.
Business Duties:
- Communication: Effectively communicate with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout delivery to ensure a common and consistent understanding of a project's functional requirements, and work through implementation resources (design, development, and training) to build a solution to meet those needs.
- Business Analysis: Assist in creation of formal user stories, flows and personas based on functional and non-functional requirements, and coordinate with development and test teams to ensure all relevant scenarios and business rules are collected.
- Project Management: Collaborate on problem resolution, team decisions, and project planning.
- Training: Help develop and deliver training as needed.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical and user facing documentation.
- Documentation: Assist with creation of a single source of truth for migrations including incoming configuration settings, timelines, expectations, and other migration project artifacts.
What you'll need:
Must have:
- Extensive Jira (8.x) and Confluence (7.x) administration experience – other Atlassian applications and/or Atlassian certification a plus
- Strong GitHub Enterprise or organization administration experience
- Experience with source control tools, such as Git (or similar).
- Ability to effectively communicate and share knowledge with internal and external contacts at all levels
- Growth mindset and an insatiable desire to learn new technologies and both hard and soft skills as well as best practices.
- Able to work on multiple projects at a time, a self-starter and independent worker
- Team mentality with customer empathy superpowers
- Be comfortable with a balance of unstructured and process-driven work.
- Ability to analyze, review, and document current functionality to inform potential areas of improvement
- Understanding of how to deliver business priorities with technical/digital solution platforms
- Experience of managing requirements through the entire lifecycle of an implementation project - gathering, documenting, validating, refining, creating user stories and acceptance criteria.
