Position Details:
Trimble is expanding the team responsible for designing, deploying and operating our cloud-based, enterprise-wide DevOps toolset, "E-Tools." Trusted every day by more than 6,000 engineers all over the world, E-Tools is a suite of self-managed, cloud-centric applications for project planning, issue tracking, source code management, continuous integration and product delivery, built on best-of-breed solutions from partners like Atlassian and JFrog. As a key element of Trimble’s product development infrastructure, this highly successful program has direct visibility and support from Trimble’s executive management and helps our teams to drive billions of dollars in revenue.
Position Overview:
The Sr. Tools Engineer is a highly experienced, accomplished and self-directed critical thinker, problem-solver, and communicator who possesses a broad skill set provides excellent technical leadership to junior team members and enjoys implementing and supporting complex mission-critical systems as part of a high-performance, global team.
Responsibilities:
- Take the lead in planning and executing new functionality and major improvements in the platform including performance, availability, security, cost, and disaster tolerance
- Partner with the team manager and support/operations/maintenance global teammates
- Design and execute test plans to support the deployment of upgrades and new services
- Create POCs to validate architectural designs and improvements
- Develop performance testing objectives, processes and validation criteria for new and existing systems
- Occasionally perform more complex updates of deployed systems in accordance with security needs, best practices, and operational objectives
- Continuously improve team objectives through creative automation
- Collaborate with operations lead on updates to application and infrastructure support
- Serve as the Level 3 point of escalation for operational issues. Occasionally meet or perform tasks off-hours, such as late night, early morning, or weekends
- Write comprehensive documentation and implement self-service systems to reduce support load
- Maximize service uptime for a truly global, always-on customer base
- Develop expertise in the use and administration of E-Tools applications
- Utilize Freshservice, Jira, and Bitbucket and other E-Tools for team issue tracking and development
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with software development or release engineering
- Strong skills in Linux systems administration
- Proficient in scripting, such as Bash Shell, Python or Ruby
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of DevOps tools, process, and culture, including agile, automation, cloud delivery, and security best practices
- Work effectively with a distributed team and internal customers
- Self-driven, creative and collaborative
- B.S., in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
Preferred Skills:
- Application operations experience; Including incident management, change management, and capacity management
- Prior experience administering Atlassian Jira Software and working knowledge of code repositories such as Git
- AWS Certification or use of Amazon Web Services
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery workflows, or other process automation
- REST based web services programming
- SAML and SSO integration
- Database Experience preferably in Postgres
Travel: 5-10% (1-2 times per year)
