This week for Jobs & Careers Month, we’re going to be thinking about the present!
When thinking about your current career, what is one thing you like about about what you do? We’d like to hear about what you’re enjoying right now!
Do you enjoy infusing creativity into your day-to-day? Maybe you love that every day presents a new challenge for you? Do you appreciate that your job gives you lots of new learning opportunities? Or perhaps, like me, you work with a truly fantastic team that you’re grateful for (shout out to the Atlassian Community and Learning team! 💙 ).
Anything that you like about your current career, whether it’s major or minor, we’d love to hear about it!
Seeing things grow and change can really be so fascinating!
I love to be able to shape a team to my own vision so that we can better the company as a whole.
But, despite all the struggles and growing pains, I am having a good time. I am learning a lot, I can focus on the growth of my people, team and myself and can make a difference for both the company and the customer.
Absolutely love this. All good points. Had a great talk with my therapist about the falsity of "if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." There will always be hard days and days that feel like work. Doesn't mean you don't love it.
Thank you for sharing this, Paul! Super interesting to read your outlook on developing your team. 😊
I love the company I work for and the teams I am part of. I absolutely love the learning opportunities I have available to me. I left my teaching career 3 years ago, so I also love the opportunity to try out different roles - I get to wear lots of hats in my current position which is helping me define what I'd like to do in the future as well!
Love everything about this, Amanda! 😁
I love my day-to-day because I love fixing things and making processes more efficient so that team members can have a better work experience.
Truly living up to the name "mechanic", Cassie! 😁💙
Currently I work as an internal process consultant (Operational Excellence Specialist) where my background in Atlassian product Administration has been leveraged regularly.
We are currently migrating off of JSM and porting all Service projects back into JIRA Software after VOC showed users do not like the Portal and restrictions, and we werent using SLA data.
During the project, Ive been using working sessions to train new Admins on configuration, data mapping, permissions, and really all aspects of JIRA config. The creativity we have infused into automating and improving current workflows and processes has been exhilarating and at the close of the project I have 3 additional trained resources to support business requested changes and improvements.
Next we are upgrading from Server to Data Center, and intend to use the User Acceptance Testing to expose end users to a more comprehensive understanding of how Atlassian products function, so that future business requests can be more realistic and requirements can be based on how the system is configured.
So interesting! Thank you for sharing, Stephanie! 😊
I love all the opportunities I have to learn. I ended up falling into tech after being the defense and intelligence liaison for a military manufacturing company (and my first job out of college was in marketing, talk about a spread!).
But my interesting work background has allowed me to wear a lot of hats and not get pigeon-holed into any one specific role in my career...though I do end up being the "jira girl" everywhere I go, haha.
I enjoy how every day is different, working with smart people, and building cool things.
Being the 'Jira girl' Jira Extraordinaire is a huge flex!
Wearing lots of hats can be great, Rae! I've also had a relatively varied work background so have often thought of myself as a bit of a jack of all trades 😆
I love learning new things, which up until recently, I had limited time to devote. I particular love being able to show people how to become more efficient with the tools they use so they can focus on other important areas in their worlds...
Sounds like you're doing a great job both learning and teaching, Laurie! 😊
This past year has seen somewhat of a pivot or tangent in my role. I took over a new product after launch but in it's nascent stages. This is a product that we have as part of our long term roadmap and will be a product/platform that we build future products on top of. Building the team around it, and seeing it grow week by week and month by month is something that is currently providing me a tremendous amount of satisfaction, satisfaction I would have derived elsewhere had the opportunity not come along.
It's so great that this tangent in your role has given you unexpected fulfilment, Andy! 😊
It is such a great feeling when you feel like you have done your absolute best and things are working out @Andy Gladstone!
I find it invigorating to be presented with new challenges on my day to day. I enjoy exploring different options and methodologies in order to find the most effective solution. This process is both intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding, and it is made all the more enjoyable by the fact that I have a supportive and collaborative team behind me.
Sayed, it's so wonderful to read about all of the things you enjoy! 😄
I thoroughly enjoy removing annoyances from other's lives. Whether through Atlassian or a physical process, I enjoy improving how people work and making it more enjoyable.
So lovely that you get fulfilment from helping others, David! 😊
Can you come work with me and remove some annoyances from my life @David Blank? Just kidding!
I used almost all products in cloud and its always great to get creative with what each product can do and how they can mesh together to make work better.
Great example here was getting beacon to work with opsgenie into JSM.
Getting creative and trying new things really can be so fun! 😄
Welcome, @Daisy K Lepon ! What are you enjoying about your current job? 😄
Thanks for sharing.
Hi, Manoj! 👋 For your current job, is there anything in particular you enjoy at the moment? 😊
I like when people start to see how continuous improvement helps them balance too much work.
I like when my knowledge and experience with Jira and Confluence can help people improve.
loving the role of being on the cusp of technology and business and being the conduit between the two domains as well as enhancing my Agile Brand with continuous learning & supportive teams. Started new Gig as Iteration manager using Atlassian tool for Project management and Operations support .
Very excited in finally getting my hands dirty in a LIVE JIRA environment along with the ability to coach and train the team in the best practices and harnessing the awesomeness of JIRA software around issue management and team collaboration
Great question @Angelie Stephens!
I love my day-to-day job as a Product Manager/Product Owner, but more than anything I have really enjoyed being heavily involved in my company's SAFe Implementation. Since before the implementation started, I have been a SAFe Champion and am also a team within a SAFe Value Stream. While it has not been easy and we have had numerous implementation issues, we are growing together and are starting to realize the benefits. We are seeing increased scalability, increases in quality, more transparency, and higher customer engagement. We have found that without Jira, Jira Align, Confluence and Trello none of this would have been possible. By combining the scalability of Atlassian tools with all the benefits of SAFe, we have improved overall in many areas as an IT Organization.
I'd like to paraphrase Martin Luther King's quote - You take the first step, when you don't see the full staircase. Entrepreneurship is exhilarating and never a dull moment. Seeing our work solving real business problems is the biggest of source of motivation and energy to keep going.
Great question @Angelie Stephens !
I really love the fact of getting to know so many people and helping them with their processes by using all variants of Jira.
Understanding their needs and shaping a solution together is so satisfying.
The fact that since becoming an Atlassian consultant, I've been learning every day again, it was a fresh start, a reset, a new part of my life. It sparked my curiosity again and I simply love the job that I'm doing right now.
Working on a transformation program within my organization and implementing more Atlassian tools within the architecture. It is very interesting and does open up so much of learning opportunities while creating and uplifting the entire Delivery ecosystem.
I am loving, what I am doing and learning right now!
I get to help teams and individuals grow and develop every single day. I really enjoy helping people grow and achieve more than they thought possible.
I love that I'm constantly learning new things every day.
My "regular job" is being a help desk tech, with the Atlassian stuff being a side responsibility. I really like using Jira/Confluence to solve the pesky annoyances that my team faces while doing their jobs. It totally makes my day when they mention "It would be nice if tickets would...." and then I create a solution to that problem. :)
