Hi all, you can read about my career path here.
@Craig Castle-Mead It's been a long, chequered journey for me! Born and brought up in Kolkata, India.
I was always an above average student but not really a topper - so when I began to look for private tuition jobs for pocket money, my school teachers helped me get a few! Hard work and commitment allowed me build a good reputation and word of mouth soon grew the number of students manifold. Most importantly, it taught me to study smarter for myself and the value of discipline and transparent professional communication. It also taught me to stand up for myself without being impolite.
As I passed out of school and went into college, the first ripples of the mobile network revolution could be felt in India. I joined the bandwagon of call-centre employees. It wasn't as well paying as my tuition stints but enriched me with knowledge and experience. I became more "tuned to customer experience and able to handle tough situations with compassion and intelligence" - description written by my then boss on my recommendation letter for the position of the youngest floor leader.
But, I had passed out of college and had joined a content creating company as a writer. I also joined my teacher training course. Always wanted to be a teacher - having experienced first hand the impact my wonderful teachers left on me and my mother's sterling example!
I joined a reputed school as a primary teacher and so started the best time of my career! I also started to write freelance content on Elance (currently Upwork) and built my reputation there as a creative writer and an ace editor although I had a day job! I was really having my cake and eating it too, with two jobs that I loved equally!
Then I joined full time as a techno-functional writer at my current job where I have been for more than a decade now. But, I have worn many hats here, apart from my designated position. I've been a much appreciated customer support manager, handling a team of 20 people and building the processes from floor up. I've put in positive effort in HR and Admin, recruiting and training employees and setting up office SOPs. I've built an efficient and capable documentation team from scratch, it was my research and implementation of Confluence in my company that led to further interest in other Atlassian products. Now, Jira has also been incorporated along with Trello!
Now, I'm looking for change again! I wish to go back to teaching and online writing once more! I'll do it, soon!
Thanks, for allowing me write my long story!
