How to get a list of users per project role?

Question

In my JIRA instance there are numerous project roles that are not linked to any scheme or workflow. However, what the "view usage for project role" window does not show, is how many users have that role assigned.

I want to avoid confusion for my end-users. If any users are assigned to unused project roles, I would like to properly migrate them to fitting project roles.

EDIT: I am a Jira Administrator. Not a Jira System Administrator, so I do not have full access to the database.

Thanks for your swift response. Unfortunately I am a Jira Administrator, not a System Administrator and I do not have access to running SQL queries in the database directly. I have updated this in my post, sorry for the confusion.
