How can I register and trace hotfixes in Jira?

How can I register and trace hotfixes in Jira? currently we use the the release versions in our project for this, but are there any other ways to do that?

What do you mean by tracing hotfixes? Searching JIRA issues will be as accurate as they maybe if you fill in their details as accurately as you can. So if you associate a certain JIRA issue to a certain fix version, you can tell it's for that version. What else do you need to get there?

I have seen many ways to distinguish a group issues from others, such as using separate label or component. but i would like to know which way will works better in combination with other options which are provided by JIRA such as Reporting, searching and staff like that.

As I said we use a separate version to distinguish the hotfixes from other issues. and I wanted to know or we use the best way to do that or not?
