"Product: Product is required."

Hi there. All of a sudden I am getting this error message "Product: Product is required"every time I try to make a new Jira ticket. There is no place for me to add a product (see screenshots) so I am not sure how to proceed. I am also not sure what caused this new change. Screen Shot 2022-05-20 at 5.13.19 PM.pngScreen Shot 2022-05-20 at 5.13.25 PM.png

Hi @Hannah Weintraub - You want to check the field configuration for that project.  It may be that someone set that field as required.  Sometimes multiple projects will share the same field configuration scheme and one person makes a change thinking they're only impacting one project, but impacting several.

Hi @Mark Segall thank you - do you know where I would find the field configuration to check?

@Mark Segall actually, I see the field and it looks like it says "required" - how would I instruct my team admin to change that so it doesn't impact my project?

I may have jumped the gun on this one... I'm seeing it is a work management project.  Can you open up project settings and at the bottom left of the screen tell me whether it says you're working with a company-managed project or a team-managed project?

Yes, it says company-managed project

Oh good I was on the right track.  😉

If you're not a Jira Admin, you'll need to ask one of them to remove that requirement or ask them to create a copy of the field configuration and apply the copy to your project.

I believe I am actually an admin on my project. See screenshot below. Would I be able to edit this myself then? If so, can you walk me through the steps

You would need to be a Jira Admin.  You'll want to navigate here:

https://INSTANCE.atlassian.net/plugins/servlet/project-config/PROJECTKEY/summary

Then click on the Field Configuration.  If you're a Jira Admin, you'll be able to click the link for "Optional" to remove the requirement.

If you don't have the access then you'll need to work with a Jira Admin to adjust it.
