Sorting by status, unexpected results

Peter Lloyd April 15, 2024

When sorting by status in either the List or Issues views some sorting happens but it's not what i expect... I have this behaviour on multiple sites/projects. What's going on?

Hi @Peter Lloyd

Looks like it's a known bug - check out: JWMCLOUD-167

Thanks for the link, good to know it's a known issue. It should be prioritised :)

And then? A month later and it's still low priority and unassigned.

Hi Peter

This is a symptom of using Team-managed projects. Technically, those projects are completely isolated from each other. So when you create a workflow for one project and use the In Progress status in that project, and then do the same in another Team-managed project, then those 2 are really two different statuses. Whereas in Company-managed projects, there would be only one In Progress status.

Whilst that makes sense, in this example I am looking at the list view of a single team managed project and I don't have multiple status with the same name in the workflow editor so I don't understand how they could have different ids.

Hi @Peter Lloyd

Can you share how looks your filter? In most cases this is happening when you have 'order by' in filter. Then if you will sort by status from JQL perspective it will be 'order by first_field asc/desc, Status asc'. So now Jira is ordering it by first_field and then inside first order, order by 2nd field.

Regards,

Seba

Hi, This isn't a filter, it's directly in the list view.

Please can you escalate https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-167

It's been a month and users are reporting to using spreadsheets because they can't sort by status
