I have a project where I split time across several clients, I have a custom field for the 'clients to bill' which is a multiple selection list that can select up to 5 clients. I also have a field 'number of clients' that is a text field in which a number is placed so I can split the time properly amounst the applicable clients.

The help I need is to create a query for find instances where the count of the clients in the 'clients to bill' field doesn't match the number in the 'number to bill' field'

Hi @Kerry Penhallurick -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

That is not possible with the built-in features of JQL.

Your workaround options depend upon how frequently you need to do queries like this and willingness to invest money / time:

  • need this one time
    • export the issues' fields to a spreadsheet and perform the check there
  • need this often
    • willing to invest money
      • Search the Atlassian Marketplace for addons to JQL which may help with such queries
    • willing to invest time
      • Build an automation rule which counts the values selected, set an indicator when the value does not match your "number of clients" field

Kind regards,
Bill
