Automation: Copy Epic key

Hello,

I'm not sure what im missing, but when we create an issue from an Epic through Link Issue > Create linked issue; the Epic key does not automatically copy to the created issue.

I know if I create it as a child issue it does link the Epic, however, doing that causes other fields not to copy over.

What am I missing/ what automation do I need to put in place for the key to copy over?

Hello @Yasmine

If you use Link Issue > Create Linked Issue, then you are creating an issue that is generically linked to the source issue. That is not the same as creating a child issue under an Epic.

The area you have highlighted will contain the Epic key only when the issue is a child of an Epic.

There are multiple ways you can make a an issue a child of an Epic.

As you already know you can use the option within the Epic for creating a child issue.

Alternately, after creating the child issue you can manually add it to an existing Epic.

If you want to copy fields from a parent Epic to its child issues when that child issue is created, that can be accomplished with an Automation Rule.
