Jira incoming email - possible to email sender with issue key that was generated?

David Stallard January 10, 2020

When someone emails an address that Jira is automatically processing via the Incoming Mail feature, is it possible to notify the sender that issue ABC-1234 has been created?

We have our notification schemes set to email Reporter on issue creation.  However, we also have the global flag set so that Jira doesn't email you about your own changes (if you modify a field, you don't need email telling you that you modified a field).  I'm wondering if the only way to accomplish this would be to turn off this flag so that users get notifications of changes they make themselves.

Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, there is no way to send an acknowledge e-mail after issue creation through e-mail without setting the "Notify users of their own changes?" to "Yes". We understand how impactful this lack is for some customers, so we created the following feature request to improve it:

There needs to be some way to send out an email acknowledgment for issues created via email handler

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates and possible workarounds.

For now, Jira Service Desk provides you with this functionality. Also, there are some plugins that would also fulfill your need, like:

Enterprise Mail Handler for JIRA

Email This Issue

Automation for Jira
