How can I make a custom field mandatory only in a transition screen?

I added a custom field to the issue resolution transition screen and made it mandatory. But now I can't create new ones because the issue creation screen asks for it even though it's not visible. In addition, that field does not apply or make sense at the time of creating the issue, only at the end when it is resolved, and I need it to be filled only at that moment. How can I make the field mandatory only on the resolution screen?

Hi @Felipe Perez-Young

I'm assuming this is a Company-managed Project, as you've added a screen into the transition?

If yes, you can do this using a Validator in your Workflow:

  • Remove the mandatory requirement from the screen
  • Edit the Workflow, and select the Transition
  • Select Validators from the pop-up
  • Add a relevant Validator - eg. Field Required, Field has been modified, etc

Thank you very much for the help.

I have another question.

The field I want to validate is a custom field and I added it to the Resolve Issue Screen, but it doesn't appear in the validation selection list.

Did I miss any previous steps?

Which validator are you using? And what custom field type is it?

Ste

Hi Stephen.  Thank you for your help.

...None of the custom fields created by me are on this list

Hi @Felipe Perez-Young

The standard list (with no text entered) shows a set of System Fields.

But this is a search box, not a dropdown menu - so if you begin typing into the box, it should come up with custom fields which map the search text instead.

Ste

Thank you very much Stephen. Your comment helps me a lot.
