Hi @Axel Bergstrom

Once an issue is deleted is gone.

But if you can search the logs for the issue key you may find the delete action and user who called it.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for taking the time.  DO you know if it is possible to restore a back-up and if so, how?

Somebody has deleted all my issues!

Is it possible to be notified by email when the issue is deleted and to be sent the issue at the time? That way, at least an external backup is available if needed.

Cheers,

Axel

Hi @Axel Bergstrom

it's not possible to restore individual issues from a backup.

if you have a dev system you can use, you can restore from the XML backups that Jira creates (if one still exists for your time period). Can you do that?

This will only give you access to the lost data. Restoring is more involved.

You can export to CSV and look at importing back to your own project.

It may also be possible in the test system to:

  • create a new temp project
  • move lost issues into that project
  • take a backup and then use that to import the temp project from backup to the original system
  • move issues from temp back to original and delete temp project

there are plenty of docs on backup/restore/import but ask again if you need more help

Additionally, You should have the admin remove delete permissions from everyone except admin.

Gentlemen, thank you kindly for your help.

Tom, where can I find the XML back ups, please?  Were we supposed to be making those, or are they done automatically?

Cheers

Hi

They will be in your <jira-home>/exports directory.

These are made twice a day be default unless your admin has changed that.

cog/System/System Info will list paths in use

Please take a look to this free app I have developed: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1219171/who-deleted-my-issues

It logs who deleted an issue and when.

It's not free, and it's not for Jira Cloud
