how to restrict the file types for request form/widget

Hi There


I want to know if it's possible (and if so how) to restrict the file types allowed to be included by customers as attachments when using a request form via the portal, or the widget?


On this help page: - it mentions GIF, JPG, PNG, but is there a list somewhere of all supported file types for JSM and options to check or uncheck which types are allowed for customer submission?

Hi Stephanie,

There's currently no restrictions or any way to add restrictions on file types allowed in Jira/Jira Service Management. 

There is an open ticket with Atlassian suggesting to add an allow/deny list of attachment types here -

If you are running Jira/JSM server, you could try building a Servlet Filter module or purchasing an add-on to limit file types.

I will vote on the open ticket, thanks for the link.

We are using the cloud version so will just stick with the current setup of unrestricted files. Only one more thing I was a bit confused about in case you also know the answer...

In the documentation linked above it says:

"By default, the maximum size of any one file is 10MB, but your Jira admin can change this limit."

When I go to edit the settings for the file size I see the default is set to 1 GB not 10 MB. and there aren't separate categories for setting the max file size per file vs. the total size of all files accepted.  I am using a next-gen project. Is it only possible to specify on these two separate levels in a classic project?

No worries!

I think the documentation is typo-ed. The default maximum size according to this article is 1GB per file -

I checked my Cloud instance and the default was set to 1GB.

There isn't any way that I know of to set max file size per file. The max is set on all files.

Thanks for confirming this! I also saw the 1 GB info in the doc you linked. That's why I was really confused by the 10 MB. Hopefully a typo.

I really appreciate your help!
