📣 Early access program - Calendar for Jira Service Management

Hello everyone! ðŸ‘‹

We’re excited to announce an Early Access Program (EAP) for a new view of issues in Jira Service Management: calendar view!

You’ll be able to schedule issues in the calendar and view your work across the coming month, week, or throughout the day. It’s a great way for team members to plan, track, and prioritize their work, and for team leads to see potential roadblocks before they cause delays.

Sound useful? Register your interest in the calendar EAP!

Using the calendar

To view the calendar, navigate to your company-managed service project, then select Calendar in your project’s navigation. Select anywhere on the calendar to create an issue, or use the Create issue button.

Move between views as needed to get an idea of upcoming work across the next day, week, or month.

Issues need a ‘Planned start date’ and ‘Planned end date’ to appear on the calendar. If you create an issue with select and drag, these fields will be filled automatically. If you select Create issue you can add the date and time yourself. Admins can add these fields to any request type in Project settings.

You can alter the timing of your issues at any time, reschedule as needed, and view details at a glance. Read more about using the calendar to view your issues

What’s next?

Based on your feedback, we’ll be exploring more features in the coming months. These may include legends and colors so you can view the progress of your work at a glance, and more features to link with the change calendar, for those who use changes in their organizations.

About the EAP

If you're selected for the early access program, you’ll be among the first to get access to this feature and receive improvements as we roll them out.

As the main goal of this program is to make sure this feature meets your needs, your feedback is extremely valuable. We want to know what worked well, what could be improved, and what else is needed to make this feature useful for you and your teams.

I'm interested in the EAP, but the apply form has too many required fields, sorry.

Thank you, Sarah, that's a very promising feature!

What could a lot to the calendar functionality - adding places and work hours to schedule walk-ups as in ServiceNow. This would help organizations migrating from ServiceNow to JSM.

@Sarah Campbell ,

I wonder if this will be a replacement for the Change Calendar feature or is this in addition?

If it's an addition I fear this will become confusing and to be honest the flexibility you can have with a global calendar like this feature seems beter than just a Change Calendar

Hi @Dirk Ronsmans, thank you so much for your feedback! We would love to hear more about your experience with the Chance Calendar and the impact the new Calendar view may have on the workflow. If you haven't already, please register your interest in our EAP and we would love to schedule some time to discuss this with you further!

I for one am very excited to se this feature roll out. It is something that is often requested or asked about by clients.

Hi @Sarah Campbell ,

I signed up for the Early-access for this feature. And noticed it had already been enabled in ALL our service projects!?

I was hopeful we would be able to pick and choose which service projects we can enable this feature... but currently it seems to have been blanket-enabled across all JSM projects.

Is there a way to disable it?   We wish to avoid confusion in certain service projects. But engage with business units that may want it enabled for use with their portals.

Ideally, this would have an On/Off toggle in the Project Settings > Features menu.

Appreciate any help. Or if we can just have this turned off in our instance for now, until there is a mechanism to selectively enable it... that would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Is this feature planned to be for JSM only or is it going to be part of Software Projects too? I like calendar in Business Projects and always wondered why such thing isn´t part of Software and JSM projects. I know in Jira Software you are supposed to use Kanban or Scrum boards, but for uninitiated people in agile it is much more difficult to use these than calendars enspecialy when they are used to them in Outlook and similiar services.

Also is calendar view going to be limited per project or is it goint to be multi-project view?

@Dominik BÅ™ezina This specific project is for Jira Service Management but I've passed your feedback onto the Jira Software team!

The calendar as it is today is multi-project - you can use the 'Project' filter to see all your issues from all your projects at once, or you can select specific projects to view on the calendar.

@Sarah Campbell

Thank you for you response. I am glad you forwarded this to the Software Team. I would like to stress out the importance of enabling this feature for both software and JSM projects. As you mentioned in your main post the calender is supposed to be "a great way for team members to plan, track, and prioritize their work, and for team leads to see potential roadblocks before they cause delays." From my experience Service Desk is reactive work which you plan according to the avaible capacities of people. Since people are mostly allocated on projects in Software you most of the time need to borrow them and seeing into their plans would help you with finding the avaible specialist asap.

I just cannot wrap around my head why would scheduling multi-project feature be avaible only for JSM projects and not for Software ones while there are people who work in both project environments. There would be no point to make schedules if you would be able to schedule only part of your work.

As Dirk said above, this functionality is very much like the Change Calendar and so you would have 2 'Calendar' options showing up on the left menu.  This could a bit confusing.

This new feature is essentially a super-set of the Change Calendar, which is fine by itself.

If an organization were to make heavy use of Change, which includes Planned start and Planned end dates, then this new Calendar would have a lot of things on the main Calendar.

What do others see as use-cases for this besides Change?  I would think that a service project would normally not having many "planned" issues beside Change.

At the moment I am not interested in the EAP because I can't think of a use-case.

Thanks for making JSM better every day.  I know you guys are working hard on it since new, non-trivial features come out every month.
