JPD in GA

Hi,

our company is planning to migrate from Jira DC to Jira cloud next year in summer. But our product teams need to use some tool for product discovery as soon as possible and they dont want to wait for next year. When are you planning to release JPD in GA? And what do you recommend us? Is there possibility to buy jira cloud licence for 1 year with this Jira product discovery only for product teams and paralely prepare for migration from Jira DC to Jira cloud (so it means, that we would have 2 jira cloud instances - one for product teams and one for our developing migration team for 1 year)? And after that we would like to migrate issues from this Jira cloud licence for product teams to our future Jira cloud licence for whole company.

Thanks in advance

Hi Denisa, you can use Jira Product Discovery now for free in the Beta and it will transition to GA in the coming months. I'd recommend it for your product team to use now for Discovery work, you won't need to do anything when it transitions to GA. Your Product teams can use Discovery in parallel with your development teams using Jira DC.

Hi @Denisa Holečková , here are a couple more details for how we recommend you do this.

First things first, in Jira Cloud there is this concept of "sites". A site has a URL, e.g. xyz.atlassian.net. On this site you can add products, for example Jira Software, Jira Product Discovery, Confluence.

So my advice here would be to:

  1. Create a Cloud site with Jira Product Discovery
  2. When you're ready to run your migration from DC to Cloud, make sure the target of that migration is the site where you have Jira Product Discovery

Adding another migration step (having 2 sites, one with JSW Cloud, one with JPD Cloud, and then migrating the JPD projects to the first one) doesn't look like a great idea.

Best to discuss this with the team working on the migration to plan this so you can save yourselves some headaches!

I'm in the same situation, but our company will move to the cloud in a few months. Our product team uses JPD and links to our on-premise Jira. The downside is our JIRA tickets are behind a VPN so JPD can't see the status of the ticket.

I'd reach for Asset's Discovery tool, have it feed into your main Jira rather than have two.

See https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Product-Discovery-articles/Announcing-Jira-Product-Discovery-pricing/ba-p/2194104 for a bit more.
