Global Fields not working with JPD Template

Seth Mason August 16, 2024

I have a Global Field that works correctly when modifying a cell in a View.  However, if I include the field in a JPD Create Idea Template, and then create an Idea by clicking "Create" at the top of the browser window, the field does not load the values of the field.  The field type is label.  The error is the below.  I should be able to start typing and see a list of labels that match what I'm typing, and then select the labels that I want to add to the Idea.  This is the field's behavior when editing in a View (list format, editing a cell) or directly editing an Ideas' details (right hand pane).

Hi @Seth Mason ,

I cannot seem to reproduce the issue you are currently facing. For example with the screenshots below, I have a global JPD field named Customer Name.

It's appearing as expected when the same view (Template Testing) is applied to the Template, and trying to create an idea under the JPD project:

Having said that, creating ideas outside of the JPD project does not apply the template as expected. Engineering is aware of this issue.

There is no ETA at the moment on when this will work as customers are hoping for - so the suggestion for the time being is to only create ideas under the JPD project if a template is applied.

@Nick Haller , your clicking the wrong "Create" button.  Click the Global "Create" at the top of your browser. The one next to Apps.

I'd like to enable Contributors (non-JPD Admins/Creators) to Create Ideas using the Form.  Would you recommend that I point them to a "New Ideas" View and then have them create the idea from the "Create Idea" button on the top left part of the View?

@Nick Haller I also noticed that when you click create, your "Customer Name" box is different than mine. Inside your box, it says "Search..." mine says "Type a Label"

Hi @Seth Mason ,

I am creating an idea using the Create button located next to the Apps tab.

And the fields vary depending on the field-type:

Your contributors can create an idea from any view, not just the New Ideas view.

But again - they will need to create the idea within the project in order for the template to apply as expected.

@Nick Haller  I have always done this within the JPD project and get the same dialog box.

@Seth Mason ,

I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce the issue you are facing. I even created a global label test field, and populated new labels / values with it - which appear when creating a new idea:

It might be worth reaching out to JPD support for assistance either through:

  • within JPD under the Give Feedback tab >> Get help from the support team
  • opening a support ticket

Yes if you create a support ticket we can get access to your site and try to find what's going on there, thanks Seth!

@Tanguy Crusson created a support ticket and the issue was that the number of labels we had in the field created a large delay.  Big props to @Nick Haller on this.
