Feature Request Added as Insight in Jira Product Discovery Not Appearing as Linked Issue

Sara Oliveira Moura August 30, 2024

Hello everyone :),

I’m using Jira Product Discovery along with Jira Software, and I’ve encountered an issue related to tracking the association between Feature Requests and Ideas.

Issue: I added a Feature Request to an Idea as an insight using the Jira Product Discovery extension. The Feature Request appears correctly in the Idea’s Insights section. However, when I view the Feature Request in Jira Software, the Idea does not show up in the "Linked Issues" section.

Questions:

  1. Is there a way to ensure that when a Feature Request is added as an insight to an Idea via Jira Product Discovery, it also appears in the "Linked Issues" section of the Feature Request?
  2. How can I easily track or verify if a Feature Request has already been associated with an Idea in Jira Product Discovery? I’d appreciate any advice or best practices for managing these associations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Sara Oliveira Moura @Nick Haller actually if you add a Jira issue (Software, Service Management, etc.) as an insight to an idea, we do create a link between the issue and the idea which should show on the issue.

The only reason I can think of that this is not happening is if the person adding the issue as an insight does not have the permission to edit the issue. Is it possible that this was the case here?

Hey Tanguy,

Thank you so much for your help!
It turns out the problem was on the link under which the Feature Request was being added to the Idea. I need to open the feature on a page in order to be properly linked. Quick views or three pane view result on the wrong link.

Thank you @Tan !! I was unaware of that, and apologize for my previous response. Did not realize the JPD idea would link to the Jira issue when the Jira issue is added as an insight to the JPD idea.

Hi @Sara Oliveira Moura ,

Linking a Jira, JSM, Confluence or other Atlassian link to an insight isn't considered a linked issue at this time.

Although some customers leverage insights in a similar way, for your use case - it might make sense to create a new link-type (such as Feature Request), and link the two that way. For example:

That way you could easily report or query on the Jira issues / JPD ideas that have this linked connection (which insights does not have this type of functionality currently):
