I am interested in knowing if anyone is using Jira Align and Jira Portfolio together? If yes how are you using each product and what are the pros and cons on each when using together?
G'day Brant,
Thank you for the discussion. I think one of the major points of consideration is to decide what artifacts your organization needs to scale agile and where each artifact should live. The fields that sync across the two applications should also be considered when making this decision.
The objects and fields that sync between Jira and Jira Align are annotated here:
https://agilecrafthelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000088393-10X-Jira-Data-Synchronization
Sample hierarchies for Jira Portfolio are briefly covered in configuring the Initiative issue type and plans:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/jiraportfolioserver/3-creating-portfolio-plans-970267321.html
This article also goes into the specifics of Jira Align versus Jira:
https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Introducing-Jira-Align/ba-p/1068047
I would add that customers who implement Jira Align typically manage Risks, Dependencies, Objectives, and the purple objects above in Jira Align.
Cheers!
Tim

@Brant Schroeder as with anything, it depends. The information shared by @Tim Keyes should give you what you need functionally. I would also recommend to think about where your teams live organizationally (and in which tool) and what problems they are looking to solve. There is benefit to using Jira Align with Portfolio for Jira under the right conditions.
