Will there be an in-product Marketplace similar to Compass?

While we are all eagerly awaiting support for PvA apps, will there be an in-product Marketplace similar to the one in Compass that would allow users to discover and install privately distributed apps, maybe even merged with the current one for non Forge apps?

  • I've read somewhere that we'll only be able to use the private distribution mechanism (can't find it right now), but it wasn't entirely clear whether this was only in reference to the official Atlassian Marketplace.
  • IIRC the Compass in-product Marketplace is basically a static data structure based on the Forge app ID as submitted by interested partners, so maybe this KISS approach could work here as well as an interim compromise?

Hi @Steffen Opel _Utoolity_ - thanks for this.

It's an excellent question, we already have something equivalent to this in Bitbucket Cloud (Workspace Settings => Marketplace) for legacy Connect Apps.

We don't currently have any plans for an in-product Marketplace for Forge apps, solely because we're focussing on pushing PvA via the main Atlassian Marketplace as a matter of priority, and I don't want to confuse the narrative around that if I can avoid it.

However, if we find that, for some reason, we don't get what we want with PvA and the main marketplace, we will definitely consider what options there are for some kind of independent in-product marketplace, ideally with a nice automated solution for partners to publish Forge apps to that marketplace and manage them.
