What will be the effect on existing users after adding a password policy on Crowd?

I want to add password policy for users on the Crowd. Since I have a lot of users I wanted to know how will this change affect the already existing users.

Also, I have one more directory which syncs with LDAP, what will be the effect of it for the same scenario?
