What is the impact of running Confluence and its Database server together in same Server?

Question

Currently our Confluence instance is installed in the same Physical server where its Database server is located... Is there a negative impact in confluence performace on that type of setup?

We've been having lots of ups and downs on our Confluence instance, so we are thinking in moving its Database server (MSSQLServer) along with its database to another Physical server.

I appreciate any answer for little that it might seem, as any help is always welcome.

Only if the two systems start competing for resources.

I'd recommend working out what is causing these "ups and downs", rather than just moving a database service off without knowing that this might help.
