We are trying to configure our pages such that we can share individual pages with members of other departments.
We have therefore set the top page to protected and all other pages are inheriting the protection and in the same time we have given view access to all users outside our team.  We were expecting that sharing pages would add the person with whom we have shared to the access list. Why does this not happen?

Hi Barbara, Hi Seng,

Thanks for the hints. As Seng says, the permissions at the parent level seem to have priority over those set on lower levels. We do not seem to be able to "simply" share one individual page below a protected parent. Moving the page makes no sense for us. We are now wondering, if we can convert the configuration for all pages to "restricted" with access for a specific group and to ensure that all new pages start with that configuration. Is this possible?

@Goran Perinic Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Just noticed that you are using Data Center. I am not sure how the permissions work in DC, but, in Cloud, people need to be explicitly added as users in your Confluence Site and given access to the Space.

To learn about how things work in DC, you might want to start with this page: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/permissions-and-restrictions-139557.html

Hi Goran,

This is due to the top page been set to restricted, therefore rest of the child pages would inherit the same permission from the parent.

Here's more info on how inherited restrictions work.

To go about this, try separating the child to have a different parent without the restriction inherited.
