Is it possible to get alerts on watched pages when labels change?

Kenny McCartney September 14, 2018

We're using labels to organise and track project pages, and I'd really like to be notified if someone adds or (more importantly) deletes labels that are on a page that I'm watching. Is this possible? Having the correct labels is quite important, so I'm surprised there's no way to track changes.

I think this would require a commercial plugin Comala workflows.

It would allow you to write a workflow that will watch the page, sending emails based on various trigger events. Maybe overkill for what you want, but if it is really important, it will solve the problem.

Thanks Bill. We actually have Comala Workflows, so I've been investigating that option. My concern is that it relies on us having a workflow (or modifying an existing workflow) to manage labels, and there will be quite a lot of pages where we didn't intend to have workflows. But it's worth a closer look.

Well I think you can restrict where the workflow is used. It has been a few years since I wrote a workflow, so not sure what options they have added.

But it is the only way I know short of writing a user macro that you insert on the page, although I know if can manipulate labels, I don't know how to watch for events or send an email from a macro.
