How can I recover a deleted attachment?

Josh Eastburn July 5, 2012

What is the recommended procedure for recovering deleted attachments in Confluence given the following:

  • Confluence runs on an external MySQL database
  • Attachments are stored in the filesystem
  • A snapshot of the Confluence server is taken everyday in lieu of using the default XML backup service

If I can figure out the previous location of the file in the attachments folder hierarchy, then I should be able to grab it from a previous snapshot and drop it back in, correct?

Yes, you should be able to do that. But if you have deleted it, Confluence will not be reffering to it anymore and hence you will have to attach it once again. If you drop it back in the file system, you will need to add the entry in database to create the relation.

Attaching again will be an easier option!

BTW, here is a link to the page in the admin guide that describes how to locate files in the attachments hierarchy.
