Data cannot be retrieved due to an unexpected error

This is a first time post on this site. I've been searching for the subject question, and haven't found what answers my question. Should there be a better place to post this, let me know and I'll re-post.

Note: On the system I'm working, I'm not an admin, have zero admin privileges, not a privileged user, just a "normal" user on both Confluence and Jira. All the Jiras referenced in my Confluence set up have values, none of the Jiras were deleted.

Working with Confluence (v7.13.7) and JIRA (v8.20.10). I had a working page on Confluence with a Gantt chart, a pie chart, a donut chart and a table. For the charts, I'm getting "Probably there is no data in the Values column. Please, select the column with data values for chart generation". For the table, each cell shows "Data cannot be retrieved due to an unexpected error. View these issues in Jira.

My (formerly working) set up is a Insert Jira Issues/Filter wrapped by a Table Transformer macro, wrapped by a Chart from Table macro, wrapped by a Chart from Table, another Chart from Table and finally wrapped by a Table Filter.

Insert Jira Issues/Filter: Pulling summary, subtasks, key, status, Start Date, End Date, updated, priority, Duration, Assigned to, Priority (note that the 2nd Priority has initial caps - don't know why. The Duration column shows 1 day(s), Assigned To is blank and Priority shows "undefined"; all other columns show "Data cannot be retrieved due to an unexpected error."

The Gantt chart Labels column is Summary, the values column has Start Date and End Date. The error shown is Probably, the incorrect date format is specified in the Chart From Table macro parameters. Please verify the dat format: dd M yy.

The pie chart Labels column is Assignee and Priority, the values column is Updated. The error shown is Probably, there is no data in the Values column. Please, select the column with data values for chart generation.

The donut chart Labels column is Status, the Values column is Updated and Summary. The error shown is Probably, there is no data in the Values column. Please, select the column with data values for chart generation.

Can anyone shed light on possible causes? To add pain to this issue, there are 2 (of 8) users who can see everything, but the majority cannot. We've checked their workstations, and all are up to date - we even had them do gpupdate /force.  🤷

Hi @G Kitagawa

Welcome to the community.

I see you use the Jira Issue/Filter macr, and I thin there the issue is.

If you let all the 8 people execute the JQL you use for the filter in Jira, are they all able to see the search results?

I expect not and then you have your issue. It means no all people have access to the issues searched in the JQL.

Hi - thank you for the welcome!

If the Jira Issue/Filter is problematic, is there a known workaround?

You are correct that none of the eight can see anything (other than the error messages). For a few months, I worked with the local Confluence admins(?), sent them screen shots, they looked at my JQL, my set up - everything. They were unable to recreate what I was seeing, nor were they able to find anything wrong.

They were also unable to determine why only 2 were able to see this work. Any suggestions?

Hello @G Kitagawa ,

The tags of question are for CLoud, but in your question, you mention Server Confluence (v7.13.7) - could you please clarify what type of instance it is?

For Server/DC you can always  check the LOG files ({CONFLUENCE_DATA_HOME}/log/) and there should be the exceptions and corresponding logging of what and why happened in Java cde.

You're correct about the tags. I have corrected them. Thank you.

As mentioned above, I have no admin rights, nor a directory as you have mentioned.
