Confluence SSO not working only on Chrome

Mark Bedford March 25, 2020

Hi all, hopefully someone can help.

I have SSO enabled for Confluence site taldelivery.atlassian.net.

I can login with my work account with IE and Edge browsers no issues. But with Chrome my preferred browser it displays this login error: https://postimg.cc/yJtL9q0W

Is three a way I can clear the cache or settings for Confluence from Chrome?
I don't want to clear the entire Chrome cache as it will affect all my other cache.

Hi Mark,

You can clear cookies for one site in Chrome by doing the following:

  1. Open a new tab, and go to chrome://settings/
  2. Search for "cookies".
  3. Go to the panel labelled Site Settings.
  4. Under Permissions, click on "Cookies and site data"
  5. Click on "See all cookies and site data"
  6. Click on the trash can on the right for (at least, if they exist):
    1. taldelivery.atlassian.net
    2. atlassian.net
    3. atlassian.com
    4. auth.atlassian.com
    5. id.atlassian.com

Basically anything containing atlassian.

Hope that helps!

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your suggestion, I had cookies for all the sites except the 1st one. I cleared them all and restarted Chrome.

The problem still persists as per this login error: https://postimg.cc/yJtL9q0W

FYI on the 'Log in to Continue' screen, as SSO is enabled, I have tried entering in my work email which sends me through to my companies SSO provider which authenticates then passes me back to Confluence and then that error is shown.

and I  have tried the 'Continue with Microsoft' as well as we ae a O365/Azure user so all have corporate AD accounts.

Both don't work and give same error.

Hi Mark,

This is quite interesting. A few questions:

Do you have any extensions in Chrome? Do others in your organisation have the same issue, authenticating in Chrome? Do you know if other applications (non Atlassian) have the same issue when authenticating with SSO from Chrome for you? Can you replicate in Incognito Chrome?

Since it works sometimes (IE/Edge), this might be something that you'll need to take up with your IT guys (identity or security team member, whoever set up Atlassian Access), and failing that, Atlassian support.
