I have set up a portal that contains confluence documents for JSM customers to read. I want to group these customers so I can manage who can view certain documents. Some documents are restricted to certain users.
Is it possible to group the customers accordingly, or do they need to sign up for Atlassian? If they sign up for Atlassian, I can group them accordingly but then I would have to pay for their licenses. Otherwise, is there any way I can manage who can see certain articles without having to pay for each user?
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
While there's a way to group customers into an Organization in JSM, you cannot use it to manage access to certain confluence pages. In JSM, grouping and managing access on a per-user basis is not as granular compared to having users in Confluence.
Confluence allows you to make certain spaces or pages publicly accessible, meaning anyone with the link can view them without logging in. There's no additional cost involved here since the user's don't need confluence license. However, this approach is not useful if you have sensitive information.
If you want more granular control over which customers can view specific documents, each customer would need an Atlassian account (Confluence license). You can then use Confluence groups to manage their access, but this would need you to purchase confluence license for each user.
Thank you Kishan. We were hoping to restrict certain Confluence pages to certain customers without having to pay for each customer, which won't be viable if we have thousands of customers. Back to the drawing board!
