More Activity Feed activity! The visual timeline is here.

Last week was a busy one for Compass, @Katie Silver introduced you to the powerful new Metrics feature, while @Patrick Hill's "Compass Communique" gave a glimpse into CheckOps (plus more!). But that wasn't the only thing we shipped last week…

Say hello to the Activity Feed timeline view

activity-timeline-view-demo.gif

This is now available to all Compass users; to get started you'll need to make sure you've installed the Bitbucket app and linked your repo on the component details page — we've got a simple to follow guide for you. And that's it! The events will flow automatically — any Production deployments will appear on the timeline, along with deployments from upstream dependencies.

This is a great way to locate a code change which might be impacting users or to get a sense of the deployment cadence your components adhere to.

Right now we're working on a REST API for sending in deployment events from anywhere — pop the call into your deploy script and you can send in deployment events from Jenkins or Spinnaker, that quirky make hack which never got refactored… Beyond that change, we're laying the tracks for incident and feature flag events, which means those will start sharing the Activity Feed with deployment events Very Soon.

Please share your unvarnished thoughts — good and bad — with us, we're so thankful for your feedback and how the Compass Community has helped this product come into focus.

Hi, thanks for the above, we're trying to play around with the Deployment stuff and getting information from Jenkins into Compass both for the timeline and metrics.

Do you have any more detail on the REST API stuff mentioned for this at all yet please?

Cheers!

P.s Happy to talk around what we're trying to do as well

Hi Andrew — we're actually trying to get the docs for REST access deployed right now.

Once they get the right approval and the build runs they should appear at https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/compass/components/send-events-using-REST-API/

(We've got a docs build happening in ~20 mins so fingers crossed we make it in time for this batch!)

Ace, thanks Andrew, great timing! I'll pass this onto a couple of our devs,

Cheers!
