Signup fails after selecting a username

Hello all,

I am trying to set up an account (namely this one) with BitBucket and Atlassian. I have an Atlassian account set up but when I try to log in to bitbucket (either via or via the BitBucket button in my Atlassian account) I am asked to choose a user name for bitbucket cloud but that never succeeds.

Namely asks me to pick a user name and once I pick one that does not yet exists and click on continue then I am presented with a page that says:

Something went wrong

While we check things on our end, try refreshing the page. If reloading the page doesn’t help, check our status page for known incidents or planned maintenance.

If you are still experiencing issues, our support team can be reached via StatusPage. Use the code below when reporting your issue, this will help the team look up details of what went wrong:

Hi, @Einstein Toolkit ! Welcome to the community!

I checked the code you shared with us and it says that this ID already exists. So I believe the problem is that the username you chose is already being used by another user on Bitbucket Cloud.

Just to give you some context around this subject, usernames must be unique for all accounts in Bitbucket, not just the ones under your workspace, so if another account on our platform is already using the username you selected, you won't be able to create a Bitbucket account using this username.

In this case, I would like to ask you to choose a different username for your Bitbucket account to confirm if that's the case. Once you pick a username that has not been chosen in Bitbucket Cloud for another user yet, you should be able to create your account.

Please let me know how it goes and don't hesitate to ask for any further information if needed.

Kind regards,

Thank you for the quick response.

I just now picked "<removed for privacy reasons>" which the web-ui does not flag as already existing (ie I get a green checkmark). I still get the same error.

I have also checked using<removed> that the user name is not yet in use for Bitbucket.

Hi, @Roland Haas

Thanks for testing this and writing back to us. I reviewed this account and could see that this Atlassian account was still associated with an old Bitbucket team account which was blocking you from creating a new Bitbucket account. I have now removed the Atlassian account from your old account.

Could you please try to create a new one and let us know how it goes?

Kind regards,

This worked! I could complete the signup process. Thank you very much for the quick help.
