How do I use a custom domain with Bitbucket pages?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Publishing a Website on Bitbucket Cloud

I have purchased a domain name for my project and would like to use it with Bitbucket Pages. For example, when a visitor enters http(s)://www.example.com/ (replaced with actual domain) I want it to behave like they had entered http(s)://my-project.bitbucket.io/ (replaced with actual pages site) except that the URLs use the custom domain name.

If you want a custom domain then I would highly recommend Aerobatic: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/aerobatic-bitbucket-addon/cloud/overview
