Is there a way of having default behaviour to check the "Close <branch> after the pull request is merged" rather than the current default of leaving it unchecked?

As best as I can tell, what you are requesting is not possible. I found an open feature request for the feature in the Atlassian JIRA.

That link shows that in BB Server v7.3.0 deleting source branch after merging option will now be selected by default when you merge a pull request but what about Bitbucket Cloud?
