Cannot clone repo. fatal: Authentication failed

Robin Gonzales August 26, 2019

I use gmail authentication and cannot clone repo.

remote: Invalid username or password

fatal: Authentication failed

This should be easy but I can't find the solution for this issue.

Helli @Robin Gonzales,

Authentication with Google does work in UI, however you need to use your Atlassian Cloud credentials or App password to authenticate Git client operations as well as REST API calls. Another option is to configure SSH key and use SSH clone URLs when working with repositories.

Hope this helps.

Daniil

I don't have Atlassian Cloud credentials. App password does not work.

It's not my repo I'm trying to clone so I don't think SSH clone will work.

Doesn't appear to work with the UI.

Went back to the terminal and 2nd App Password works.

App password should work, given that you set the right scope for it. Repositories/Read is enough for cloning repositories.

SSH should work too, no matter who is owning the repository. SSH key identifies a user, and Bitbucket knows about permissions for that user.

Cheers,
Daniil
