Bitbucket Server Backup Client: Access to bitbucket.properties is denied

Anguel October 5, 2020

Hi,

I am trying to run a backup using the server backup client as described here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver0516/using-the-bitbucket-server-backup-client-966061905.html

However the file shared/bitbucket.properties cannot be read and backup fails:

Access_Denied.png

Unfortunately, it turns out that even with Windows admin privileges I still cannot view or set the permissions of the file. And as stated here it looks like I also should NOT take ownership of this file as administrator:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-questions/How-do-I-edit-bitbucket-properties/qaq-p/622550

So how can I solve the problem? Any help is welcome.

Best regards,

Anguel

Check the permissions and ownership of the Bitbucket data and installation directories - they should all be owned by and permissioned for the user that the Bitbucket service runs as.  You should then be running the backup as that user as well, not as an admin.

Thanks Nic, so I should set the top level data directory and any subdirs to be owned by atlbitbucket, correct? Maybe I created the top level data directory using my admin account, so this must be changed now, correct?

Please also excuse my ignorance, but how can I run the backup as atlbitbucket without knowing the password? Is there a way or should I change the password for atlbitbucket first?

Thanks in advance,

Anguel
