A Jira Cloud user can't log in to BitBucket using Accept Invitation email

Robert Wiśniewski November 16, 2022

New Jira Cloud account was created for user. Everything seems fine, user can log in to Jira. After that an invitation to join BitBucket repository was sent. User received a proper email, clicked "Accept invitation" button and the log in page of BitBucket appeared. On this page the email address of the user is already filled in. User enters the password (same as for Jira) and page "Almost done" shows up. Email address is still visible but there's now also a required box "Username" on the screen. And no matter what he types in this box he can't log in to BitBucket because "Username already exists".

User did not have an account on BitBucket before. He's not on the members list in BB.

We have a Standard Plan of BitBucket.

There was no such problem for 50+ other users.

Clearing cookies and opening the invitation link in incognito window doesn't work. Same story happens (checked on Edge, Chrome, Firefox).

New invitations were sent plenty times.

I also tried a method of deleting a Jira account and creating a new one - didn't work.

I ran out of ideas how to fix it.

Any idea how to take care of it?

Hey Robert,

If a user does not already have a Bitbucket Cloud workspace - the invitation email is essentially forcing them to sign up for a Bitbucket Cloud workspace first before granting them access. They will need to enter a unique username (if one is already taken, try adding underscores/numbers after) to be able to create their personal workspace using this username.

Once the workspace has been created and they are logged into it, they will need to click the link in the email again to actually accept the invite and grant access.

Cheers!

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your answer. It helped! Problem was to find unique username for this specific user. We checked plenty of names but finaly we found an unused one.

Thanks again!

Greetings!

- Robert.
