Bamboo cannot start: Bamboo bootstrap failed

After using Bamboo for about a week, the server restarted and bamboo refuses to start, when I run the "bamboo-start.bat" from bamboo/bin folder. 

It says; 

Bamboo bootstrap failed: Your Bamboo instance could not start because health check failed.

I know it's not optimal to have bamboo installed on c: but so far it's been my only option to do so.. 

 

Please advice on resolving.

I got past this issue.

 

Short Story: Bamboo is broken, and will not work out of the box following a normal windows installtion anything.

 

Long Story:

The Bamboo's issues started at the choice of an installer.

There was a 64-Bit one which if you choose that, you must have installed a 64-Bit Java.

The 64-Bit Bamboo installer would not see/accept the 32-Java.

I had tried the 64-Bit-Bamboo insatller, gotten errors before even running, and ultimately had to uninstall Bamboo, and then install the 32-Bit Bamboo installer.

Bamboo is further borken in that it will not work if installed to any normal Program Files path, where normal means, that you have security and anti-virua protection to otherwise prevent apps from chaning files/folders inside the PRogram Files. This is part of what leads to the error in the logs. I tried to install to a side folder, and got a similar error because Bamboo also has another BUG that it will not work properly if the Bamboo_home is not using a 8.3 file/path naming. And also Bamboo is further borken that it ~may~ not work unless installed on the C drive. I found these other issues out after installing, trying, failing, inunistalling, and trying again and again.

For best results, install Bamboo to "C:\Bamboo" and set the Bamboo Home also to C:\Bamboo.

Bamboo will not work unless one MANUALLY enters into the Windows environment JAVA_HOME or JRE_HOME.

Worse, Bamboo will not wokr unless the JAVA_HOME is using 8.3 file naming. Any naming with spaces will cause the bin\start-bamboo.bat to fail.

To get a 8.3 path, one can use a CMD prompt and type dir /x to get paths and file names for the JAVA_HOME variable.

Being 2019, and having such serious BUGS in the installation is not a good sign.

Hi Niels,

Is Bamboo installed as a windows service? If yes, you need to start it from the Windows Services Manager (services.msc) or executing the <installation directory>/StartBamboo.bat file.

Before trying to start Bamboo again, make sure it is fully stopped and delete the content from the following folders:


/bamboo-home/caches/
/bamboo-home/temp/
/bamboo-home/index/
/bamboo-home/jms-store/

Please let me know the results.

Yes it is.

I emptied all these directories, tried starting from "startbamboo.bat", but it said ''service not recognized" or similar. 

Then I ran 'installAsService.bat' and tried 'StartBamboo.bat'. 

Now it seems to start, but it opens the management portal with the same error message as before: Bamboo bootstrap failed; your instance could not start because healtcheck failed'..

Is there any way I can investigate what went wrong with this healtcheck?
