Bamboo - introducing LTS releases

We know that many of you have been asking for Long Term Support versions for Bamboo, as managing large, complex instances can require plenty of lead time and planning to prepare for an upgrade.

To help you plan the upgrade in advance, we want to let you know that Bamboo 9.2 will be our first LTS release (planned for Q4 calendar year '22). If you plan to upgrade only once this year, we recommend moving to Bamboo 9.2, when it becomes available.

What you should expect

The Bamboo 9.2 LTS will be based on the coming Bamboo 9.0 platform release, allowing your teams to benefit from an array of features including, but not limited to:

Enhanced security

  • Platform 6 in Bamboo 9.0 upgrades our stack of third-party dependencies and resolves technical debts

Optimized performance and reliability

  • Better Bitbucket Cloud integration: Bamboo 9.0 uses webhooks to offer enhanced Bitbucket Cloud integration. This updated webhooks handling relieves the load in Bitbucket Cloud while improving reliability for Bamboo by reducing resource utilization

  • Upgrade to Embedded Crowd 5.0

Modernized look and feel

  • Upgrade to AUI 9

  • REST API documentation migrated to Swagger

Additionally, this LTS release enables your teams to take advantage of all the features we've released since 8.0:

Additionally, this LTS release includes the many bug fixes and security improvements that will be shipped with Bamboo 9.0. Check out the Data Center roadmap | Atlassian to learn more about what’s coming.

As a reminder for those of you who are currently on Bamboo Server 7.2, the end of life (EOL) for this version will be on November 23, 2022.

If you work with a Technical Account Manager or Premier Support, consult your contact for a recommendation based on your environment and upgrade cadence. Learn more about our Long Term Support releases.

Best,

The Bamboo Team
