Suggestion: Lock ability for users to create teams

It would be great if we could prevent Teams from being created based on an org admin. The concern here is if we create a Marketing Team SCIM group and then someone new doesn't pay attention and creates another group called Marketing Teams, we can run into duplicative group creation.

Hi @Dara Kordestani ,

I know this is a 'pain point' for many organizations as currently there's no way to limit who can create Teams.
However, here's a JAC suggestion on which you can drop a vote and set yourself as a watcher: JRACLOUD-81740 Ability to limit who is able to create a new team and who is able to delete any team 

We also hope that this will be implemented soon enough 🤞

I've voted for this. I do remember seeing this in the past and at the time, I didn't think much of it. But specifically, for SCIM sync rollout, I think it will be integral. The reason being is that you are giving control to administrators to manage Teams and if they don't have the ability to manage or prevent teams from being created what prevents the duplicative team creation possibilities.

Apologies for the late response and thank you for the feedback as always.

So we know that we're solving for the correct thing, would you be able to expand on this? Specifically:

- Why are duplicate Teams are problem for you? 

In terms of the update:

- This is on our radar at the moment, I believe next year we will start looking at early explorations - it's on our long-term roadmap but too early to tell when it'll be delivered and what it will look like

- We believe we we have made progress by end of 2025

Hi @April Chi - No worries. Here are two reasons:

  • Confusion and incorrect team affiliation
    • For example, Marketing Team and "Marketing Teams". If Marketing Team is SCIM managed than it is most likely tied to a group that gets regularly updated for other reasons like email being received. "Marketing Teams" was randomly created by an employee who either worked for Marketing team or decided they wanted a team called "Marketing Teams" and is not updated with the latest team info on a regular basis
  • Naming Convention Consistency
    • With IT/Admin managed groups, we can make sure to follow a strict pattern of how teams are named so there is uniformity and consistency across the company. For example Team - Marketing, or US - Marketing - Web Team vs "Web Team"

Happy to discuss further but it would be great to either have an option to disable team creation from everyone or have a permission set on people who are allowed to create teams.
