Tombstone option during cloud migration

Dominik Žarković October 15, 2021

We are migrating from ouf server jira to cloud and we have many users that no longer work for our company and their email address is deleted.

In this documentation, we found the statement  "If you don’t want to migrate the user, you’ll need to change FALSE to TRUE in the tombstone column.".

Also when enabling com.atlassian.jira.migration.emails.correction.feature dark feature we get Always tombstone invalid users, Never tombstone users and Tombstone up to date.

Can someone explain what does the tombstone option do.

Hi @Dominik Žarković ,

Good day. Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can someone explain what does the tombstone option do.

  1. If Always tombstone the checkbox is ticked, and the JCMA will tombstone all your invalid email users automatically. Users will not be recoverable after migration in the cloud. But, switching off this knob will bring your invalid emails into the preflight check again.

  2. If Always merge the checkbox is ticked, JCMA will merge your content in the cloud and all the content will direct to a single user that holds the email. Switching off this knob will bring your duplicate emails into the preflight check again. but manual clean-up needs to be done in some server tables to make it fully reset.

Hope the above information helps,

Regards,
Sri
