Difference Goals and Projects

Nicolas Mayans July 1, 2024

Hello community, how are you? I wanted to ask you about the concept of use in Atlas of "Projects" and "Goals", my doubt arises about how the two are related. That is, if an atlas project is the one that can cover many goals or a goal covers several atlas projects. I read the documentation and this is still not clear to me. From already thank you very much

The introductory documentation on Projects and goals in Atlas is indeed not as easy to comprehend as it should be. Regardless, it contains the resp. clarification in section What is a goal in Atlas?:

A goal represents the outcomes that multiple projects or streams of work contribute to. Goals take a longer time to achieve and can be represented by various frameworks, such as OKRs, KPIs, SMART goals, and more.

So a goal covers several atlas projects. This is further illustrated in the dedicated article The relationship between projects & goals:

Again, section What is a goal in Atlas? clarifies this further:

Think of a goal as an outcome one or many project teams are trying to achieve. These are higher-level items that might take multiple streams of work to complete. Atlas is flexible to fit any company's goal framework - from OKRs, KPIs, and more. [emphasis mine]
