It’s incredible to witness Atlassian and Microsoft’s journey as they’ve progressed over the years and developed such well connected and award-winning cultures. As a result, we’ve reaped the benefits of the scalable processes and systems they’ve built, as they bring design-driven innovation to every company in the world. With the help of Atlassian and Microsoft Teams, your company can tackle many of todays distributed work force challenges.

Simplification starts with centralisation

Before centralisation, companies and teams had to rely on many different tools to do their work. This large and disconnected technology stack was inefficient and created several challenges.

Tasks were slipping through the cracks. Employees were losing time switching between tools, and it was hard to pass work between teams because each one used a different platform. Leaders also found it nearly impossible to pull comprehensive reports or get a holistic picture of the people and projects they were managing. To continue the company’s rapid growth, they needed to simplify, stat.

The answer is simple. One platform that could meet very diverse needs off the shelf and integrate well with other department-specific tools such as HR’s resource management system. You may already be familiar with Atlassian tools such as Jira Software, Confluence and Bitbucket, however you may not realise how that there’s an easy way to integrate with Microsoft Teams amongst other tools.

A customized solution for every department

Once integrated with Microsoft Teams, the opportunities are endless, and not limited to your Software Development team! When your team uses Jira you can integrate it with Microsoft Teams to get enable multiple advantages. Let’s take a look at the below scenarios.

  • John, a Software Engineer, needs a new charger for his laptop, so he creates a P2 service request in Jira Service Desk. IT Support team sets up the notification to the team channel for all P0-P2 requests in order to adhere to the SLAs. Michael picks up the ticket in the Microsoft Teams channel and is able to progress it forward faster.

  • Anna, a Product Manager, wants to get on top of her product backlog to provide a high quality product. She creates a product-managers channel in Microsoft Teams where Jira Software sends informational cards when a High priority bug or feature request is received from her team or other teams. Her team uses Kanban and she knows that the sooner the issue prioritised, enriched with additional information and addressed, the happier her customers will be.

  • Maria del Mar, a Quality Assurance Team Lead, wants to distribute incoming QA requests amongst her team members. She configured Microsoft Teams Jira Connector to receive notifications when there is an an issue in “Ready for QA“ state and has a few specific Jira custom fields. She does not want to be overwhelmed by notifications, but she still wants to react quickly, so she configures multiple filters in her fine-grained alerts.

  • Xavier, the Integrations Software Development Team Lead, works in a triad with his Product Manager and Designer. Xavier is time poor, so he configures Microsoft Teams Jira Connector to get specific notifications for state transitions such as ‘In Progress’, ‘Design Review’, ‘Blocked’ or ‘Failed’. These notifications are then sent to his personal channel in Microsoft Teams, so he can address them with ease. He also uses this channel as feed and names it integrations-xavi-jira-feed.

  • Alex, a Human Resources Manager, uses Jira to make sure people are on-boarded and off-boarded according to company protocols. Alex configures a few rules in Jira to get notifications in Microsoft Teams when certain issues are Blocked and when new issues are created as he wants to make sure that everything is ready for new joiners.

  • Luca, the SecOps Lead, cares deeply about security, so therefore makes sure that only allowed projects and spaces can use Microsoft Teams Connectors. Additionally, he restricts webhook urls used by configuring allowed webhook urls created in Microsoft Teams by Microsoft Teams administrator John.

These are just a few ways to integrate Jira and Microsoft Teams, and we at Move Work Forward are working towards building the highest quality integrations for your teams!

You may ask, but what about my docs

Atlassian Confluence has played a tremendous role in many organizations by creating a more open and transparent culture. Today, everyone can be a blogger and as a result you may be missing out on a big opportunity to capture team updates and contributions.

  • Jeff, a VP of Growth, writes monthly blog post where he shares key updates and experiment results. You clearly wouldn’t want to miss this sweet jam. Multiple teams have configured Microsoft Teams Confluence Connector to receive a message in Microsoft Teams when Jeff publishes a new blog post, which increases engagement and feedback because people jump on the content straight away.

  • Julia, a Junior Accountant, needs information about a company’s monthly report so she configures Microsoft Teams Confluence Connector to send notifications every time her manager adds or updates an attachment on a financial page. Her manager is always surprised at the extent and timeliness of her knowledge. She won’t be Junior for much longer, he feels.

  • Oliver, a Staff Software Engineer at Acme (but also a vivid mountain lover and skier), gets notifications in Microsoft Teams whenever somebody asks a question on Confluence related to his favourite topics using Confluence Questions and Answer App. He wants to keep his edge and at the same time broaden his ski friends network by providing prompt and helpful answers using Confluence Answers. He configured Microsoft Teams Confluence Connector to get notifications when a new question in created, so he can keep his lead with his quick and useful answers.

Yes, integrations of Microsoft Teams and Atlassian products like Jira and Confluence can help your organisation to move work forward, easier and with more fun, and it doesn’t matter whether you are working remotely or not!
