April 17, 2024

Hello everyone,

We’re on the brink of some significant changes in Jira, specifically the upcoming transition from using 'epic-link' and 'parent-link' fields to a unified 'parent' field. This update is set to simplify the issue hierarchy in Jira Software Premium and will also reflect in JQL functionalities.

Here’s a brief overview of what’s coming:

  • New Issue Hierarchy: The 'parent' field will replace both 'epic-link' and 'parent-link', streamlining the connection of issues across different levels.
  • JQL Adjustments: Adjustments to JQL functions will be minimal, but you might notice changes in the results for queries involving parent conditions.
  • Time in Status Compatibility: The Time in Status add-on will automatically adapt to these changes, ensuring that your data remains accurate without any needed intervention from your side.

Estimated Rollout: April 30

As we approach this transition, I’m curious to hear your thoughts:

  • How do you feel about these changes?
  • Are there specific concerns or excitement you have about the new 'parent' field implementation?
  • For those who rely heavily on JQL what impacts do you anticipate?

Your insights are incredibly valuable, not only to us as developers but to the entire community here who might be navigating similar challenges. Feel free to share any questions you might have, or tips you think could help others!

Looking forward to your thoughts and thank you for contributing to a robust discussion!
