We caught up with Raul Pelaez, TecnoFor Solutions Director about how TecnoFor comes up with ideas for apps, their secret to success, and more.

Atlassian: What's your role at TecnoFor?

Raul: As TecnoFor Solutions Director, I lead a skilled team dedicated to developing innovative solutions to our customers' most pressing problems. Our primary mission is to enhance and extend the fundamental capabilities of the Atlassian ecosystem. Our ultimate goal is to create products that meet our customers' needs, streamlining their workflows and ensuring greater efficiency. Serving our community is a source of immense satisfaction as we continually strive to improve their overall experience.

Atlassian: How does your team come up with ideas for new apps?

Raul: We work to improve the customer experience through a combination of primary market research methods such as customer meetings, support ticket analysis, posts on LinkedIn, Atlassian and Twitter communities, and networking at events. Through insight gathering, we identify existing needs and closely monitor official Atlassian initiatives and releases. We discuss these with our customers to gain valuable information. Our goal is to extend the functionality of Atlassian software as much as possible, innovating for our customers and improving their overall experience.

Atlassian: What do you think has been the secret to your success so far?

Raul: The secret to our success lies in our unwavering commitment to understanding and addressing the REAL NEEDS of our users. By conducting extensive market research, actively engaging with our customers, and continually iterating on our Jira Cloud Apps, we ensure that it delivers real value and exceeds expectations. Our relentless focus on innovation, seamless integration with Jira and commitment to exceptional customer support have been key factors in our success in creating truly indispensable tools for Jira users.

Atlassian: What is your most popular app? What problem were you trying to solve for customers when you created it?

Raul: The Kanban Combined WIP application for Jira aims to extend the Kanban methodology by providing users with a flexible and customisable tool to efficiently manage their work, optimize their workflow and improve team collaboration.

• Simplify Kanban board customisation: The app allows users to easily improve their Kanban boards. By combining columns and WIP limits, adding colors and setting personal or team backgrounds, users can easily customize their boards to suit their specific needs and preferences.
• Improved WIP management: With the addition of WIP limits per swimlane, the app gives users more granular control over their work in progress. This feature allows teams to set different WIP limits for different swimlanes to accommodate different levels of work or priorities.
• Explicit Policies: The app introduces Explicit Policies, which are configurable by column and shared with board users. This allows teams to set specific rules or guidelines for each column, promoting consistency and standardization in their workflow.
• Improved user experience: The app's new features, such as zoom and scroll for better visibility on small laptop screens, improve the user experience and make it easier for teams to efficiently interact with their Kanban boards.
• Collapse and Expand Columns: The app introduces a "Collapse/Expand" mode for columns. This mode allows users to preview cards in a compact view and transition seamlessly between expanded statuses, providing a more organized and efficient board experience.
• Multiple Views of the Board: With the app users can create multiple views of their Kanban board. This capability enables teams to customize their board based on different perspectives or workstreams, improving visibility and simplifying task management.

Atlassian: What’s next for you?

Raul: As Jira Cloud developers, our focus is on creating a process mining connector for Jira (Process Analytics). The goal of this connector is to automate the process of transforming Jira data into a format compatible with process mining tools, specifically CSV format.

Process Mining is a powerful discipline that allows organizations to analyze and visualize their business processes based on real data captured in information systems such as Jira. By processing and transforming Jira data into a format suitable for process mining tools, we aim to provide users with valuable insights into their workflow and business processes.

Initially, our connector will allow users to export Jira data into CSV format, which can then be easily imported into various process mining tools for analysis, visualization and process optimisation.

Looking ahead, our future vision for the Process Analytics Connector for Jira includes the integration of OpenAI tools. OpenAI provides advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, including natural language processing, machine learning and text generation. By integrating OpenAI tools into the connector, we can further enhance the data transformation process.

With OpenAI's language models, the connector could potentially offer features such as intelligent data classification, analysis of comments or descriptions within Jira issues, and automated insight extraction from the data. This integration would enable users to gain deeper and more meaningful insights from their Jira data, enabling them to make data-driven decisions and improve their business processes and reduce bottlenecks.

Overall, our focus on creating a process mining connector for Jira (Process Analytics) with future integration of OpenAI tools demonstrates our commitment to providing users with a comprehensive process analysis and optimisation solution that leverages the power of both process mining techniques and advanced AI capabilities.
