To keep the Partner Spotlight series alive and well, Atlassian has invited Partners to create their own articles following Atlassian’s suggested format. Here is the latest installment – an interview with Dhruv Agarwal of Middleware Software, Inc.
Question: What's your role at Middleware?
Dhruv: As Co-founder and CEO at Middleware, I'm the leader of our small but mighty team of dedicated engineers, designers, marketers, and salespeople working to deliver faster & less tedious insights for technical teams using scrum the world over.
Having worked as an Engineering Manager at Maersk, the shipping company, I saw firsthand how hard it was to truly understand the delivery issues of software engineering & IT product work without spending hours fiddling with CSV exports from Jira in Excel or Google Sheets. Even after all that, it was often difficult to pinpoint bottlenecks or issues with delivery because one tool rarely had all the data needed and other tools like GitHub and CircleCI just didn't have the reporting tools needed to deliver a holistic picture of the pipeline. This often left myself and my colleagues feeling overwhelmed and underequipped to help our teams perform more effectively so they could do more in less time - and develop great products while also enjoying life.
Today, our mission is to be that software delivery intelligence layer - ensuring everyone from engineers to technical program managers (TPMs) to CTOs can get clear, actionable, insights on the health of their software delivery practices, identify bottlenecks, and quickly take action to remediate them to ensure successful product delivery.
Question: How does your team come up with ideas for new apps?
Dhruv: We try to stay as focused as possible on our original mission - improving the software delivery process for those who are executing it and managing it. Our idea for Sprint Insights & Reports for Jira came out of our full solution, Middleware Cloud. We kept hearing that TPMs, in particular, were struggling with sprint reporting and that was the part of our product that really took off at first. So we spun it out into its own app and users really love it!
Question: What do you think has been the secret to your success so far?
Dhruv: Passion for what we do. We love helping teams make the process of making great software easier and more effective. It's also a real need that customers have today, so it was a bit of serendipity that things lined up this way.
Question: What is your most popular app? What problem were you trying to solve for customers when you created it?
Dhruv: Right now, we only have one app in the store, so it's our most popular: Sprint Insights & Reports for Jira. When we created it, we were trying to solve the problem with basically all sprint reporting: it's tedious, annoying, and when you're done, it doesn't tell you much. Sprint Insights, on the other hand, is lightning-fast, requires no exporting or importing of data, and shows users where the problems are so they can focus on what they were hired to do: solve them.
Question: What’s next for you?
Dhruv: I'm really excited to attend Team '25 - it'll be my first time! Additionally, our team is working on some more predictive features to help users understand the risk to their roadmap based on allocation and work trends. We're also looking into adding a Rovo agent so users can simply ask for information about their sprints and reports will be generated on the fly for them. Finally, we'll be bringing our full solution, Middleware Cloud, to the Marketplace very shortly!
